Working Holiday Visas increase

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship has just released its report on the 2011 working holiday scheme. Overall there was an increas of some 7% on the total number of visa grants since the same time last year. The country responsible for the largest single increase was Ireland where the total number of first working holiday visas granted rose to 18,274 - a whopping 87% more than the previous year. An indication of the tougher times in Ireland.

People do need to be careful with the working holiday visa. It is just that - a visa to let you enjoy an extended holiday in Australia and work from time to time to pay the bills. It has quite a few limitations and is not necessarily the first step towards permanent residency. If that is your goal you really do need to get professional advice before you leave, or at the very least shortly after you arrive in Australia - and not be misled by the rumours.
