It has been a few months since we updated the IMSVISA Newsletter. The flow of changes in Australian Migration Law since last September have been quite staggering and we are hopeful that much of this is now coming to an end with the recent publication of the much anticipated, and long overdue, changes to the Skilled Occupation List. This now replaces the old Migration Occupations in Demand List and the Critical Skills List. Occupations such as chef, cook, hairdresser, graphic artist and many more have now been dropped from the new SOL which now concentrates on professionals in the health care industries, engineering and construction and some business areas.
It is not only the General Skilled Migration program that has come under such scrutiny but many of the other platforms that support Australia's overall migration program have also been altered in recent months. For instance in April the threshold investment requirement for provisional business migrants was raised from $250,000 to $500,000.
